how it all began..
by Aubree WarburtonHey y'all!
I'm sitting down to give you an inside scoop of The Roux Market, first hand! Let's go back to the beginning...
I have always had a love for lettering, art, and beautiful designs. You know when you'd go to pick out school supplies and you had all the cute folders and note books to choose from? I lived for that! And believe me.. narrowing down my options was never an easy task. I took art classes in high school, and was majoring in Graphic Design in college when life took a turn and I ended up not going that route.
While I still loved everything to do with that realm, I didn't do much with it.
Fast forward to 2 years ago.. I started feeling the itch to do more with my creative mind, and came across this amazing giveaway from Rettel Co and Chalk Full of Love. They were giving away a paper roller along with both of Chalk Full of Love's lettering books! I thought to myself, well.. I know it's a long shot BUT I'll enter and if I end up winning, I'll take that as divine inspiration that it was meant for me to do something with this again! WELL WHAT DO YOU KNOW- I freaking won the giveaway.
I was pumped and started practicing once again! However, life got busy and I didn't move forward with anything.. Although I did convince the hubby I needed an IPad Pro.. which ended up sitting and not getting used for a few months either. Yikes.
Now forward to almost a year ago, I just had my 3rd baby and was really just feeling like I needed to do something for me, that I loved, not connected to raising children. That's when it came full circle and I realized I needed to pursue this life long passion of textiles, fonts, stationery, patterns, surface design, paper goods, etc!
While COVID-19 has been life altering in many ways, one great thing it has done for me is that it kicked my butt into getting this thing going! I started practicing and learning how to use my Ipad Pro, Procreate, Illustrator, and more.. and while there's SO much to learn still.. I'm going along with Gary Vaynerchuk's advice, just START. You learn as you go. If you wait until you know everything perfectly, you may never start! SO JUST START!
Which lands me here! Learning my way through starting a business, getting an LLC, starting an ecommerce site, designing and sourcing my cards, production, and on! It's a lot.. but it's exciting and I can't wait for you to enjoy my cards as much as I do!!
Thanks for being here. It truly means the world!!
